III. NITRATE LOADING STUDY FINDINGS
A. WASTEWATER FLOW PROJECTIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
The characteristics of the wastewater flow to be ultimately disposed to the soil environment will
f be a combination of domestic wastewater flows from the residential structure, very small
black/graywater flows from the customer store, and wash-down water from the pet kennels that
will consist only of dog urine, and not fecal matter. This will prevent concentrated organic
loading and prolong the lifespan of the wastewater disposal system.
/WASTEWATER FLOW VOLUME PROJECTIONS
Many variables are involved in estimating wastewater Average Daily Flows (ADF) from a
combination residential and commercial facility. Given these variables are unknown but do not
typically vary from what can be realistically estimated, flow volumes will be projected based upon
these realistic parameters, which has been acceptable to EHD. The main issue with regard to
wastewater flows from this project, is that all water use within the residential structure, the
customer store, and the pet kennels must be kept as low as possible.
Beginning with the pet kennels, it is proposed to house a maximum of 35_.dogs and 1 Jsas. As
referenced, all fecal matter will be picked up by hand and not washed into the septic system.
Consequently, wash-down will occur only one time each week, with the kennels mopped every
day. The kennels for the cats will not be washed down, only hand-mopped.
Therefore, assigning 2 gpd for a maximum of 35 dogs= 70 gallons per day. There is also to be a
washing machine and a dishwasher that will each use a maximum of 10 gpd. This gives a total
wastewater flow of 70 + 10+ 10=90 gpd from the entire kennel facility.
Ms. Worland and Ms. Bagley will occupy the residential structure. Based upon the following
itemization of water use, total residential water use is anticipated to be 110 gpd:
HOUSEHOLD PERSONAL USE
25 gal for laundry 2 gal for drinking and cooking
10 gal for dishwashing 3 gal for oral hygiene
5 gal for misc.use 14 gal for bathing
16 gal for toilet flushing/sink washing
FLOW RATE in gals/home/day= 40 gals/household/day+(35 gal/person/day x number of persons/home).
The daily wastewater flow rate can be estimated at:
40 gals+(35 gals x 2 people in the home)= 110 gals/day.
Wastewater flows from the customer store with one toilet is anticipated to be 10 flushes per day at
1.5 gallons per flush = 15 gpd from the store.
Therefore, the total dailyastewater flow from the entire facility is projected to be:
90+ 110+ 15 --215gpd
,J 8
Chesney Consulting
.i
