Many
guests qudstion when they visit what the loud "industrial" noise is, and I explain to them we have a
gravel pit for a neighbor(under the scrutiny of slightly raised eyebrows; I guess not everyone lives next
to a gravel pit?)
The current hours of operation are already extreme, but I am not making requests to scale them back
(like I'd like, and frankly as probably should happen, based on it being located in an agricultural area).
What is not right is to take land.designated for agriculture and convert it to quasi-industrial use just
because there happens to be a good gravel find under the subject property. It's quite enough of an
exemption to allow the gravel operation to exist in the first place, responding to any additional requests
to expand or alter operations should be met with a resounding chorus of no.
I sat on the planning commission for the City of Ripon, CA, and this is exactly the sort of request from
home owners you should put a lot of value on. As a homeowner, I am not asking for any sort of take
- back from the gravel operation (we know they need to run a business), but you should not grant them
any opportunity to expand their profits at the expense of the homeowner's personal enjoyment of their
existing private property.
It's a noisy operation, there is tons of truck traffic making it a difficult road at times, the roads takes
excess wear du'e to all the heavy truck traffic, and the quality of life would suffer tremendously for all
residents if you were to grant any extension of hours of operation to the above facility.
Please do the right thing and deny this request. If for some reason, there is a sentiment to grant the
request, I will be the first to bring this matter to the attention of whoever necessary to see that it is not
approved. This is a bad idea, in a great location, putting a gravel operation here in the first place was
not a good idea, doing anything to support enhanced activity would be a terrible one.
Please add me to the distribution list for any matters pertaining to this request, thank you very much,
Sincerely, .
Jeff Bond
