Ms. Leanne Mueller
October 18, 2002
Alternatives and Mitigation Measures
If the Initial Study determines that potentially significant impacts may result from the
project, the County should be prepared to consider feasible alternatives to the project's
location or configuration and mitigation measures that would lessen or avoid agricultural
impacts. The Department encourages the use of agricultural conservation easements,
by purchase or mitigation fees, on land of at least equal quality and size as partial
compensation for the direct loss of agricultural land, as well as for the mitigation of
growth inducing and cumulative impacts on agricultural land.. Agricultural conservation
easements will protect a portion of the State's remaining resources and lessen project
impacts in accordance with CECA Guideline §15370.
Information about agricultural conservation easements, as well as the Williamson Act
and provisions noted above, is available on the Department's website, or by contacting
the Division at the address and phone number listed below. The Department's website
address is:
http-//www.consrv.ca.gov/dlrl)/CFCP/index.htm
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this Application.
