The proposed manure management system is adequate to dispose the liquid manure
effluent for the proposed facilities and operations, but additional acreage is required to
disperse the solid manure.
Description of the Properties:
The main dairy site is two parcels, APN #205-130-07, which is 155.29 acres, and
APN#205-140-07, which is 40 acres for the total of 195.29 acres; both in San Joaquin
County.
The additional parcels, all in San Joaquin County, to be used for the dispersal of solid
manure are:
• A 40 acre parcel which is being subdivided from the northwest corner of existing
parcel APN 205-13-13.
• The Lone Tree Ranch, 50 farmable acres, which houses 40 bulls, in separate
pens. APN # is 205-05-10.
• The Temple Creek Ranch, 160 acres, which houses 300 heifers, in flushed
freestalls. APN # is 205-19-01 .
Refer to Nutrient Water Irrigation Parcels Map, Appendix IB.
Analysis of the properties for Manure Dispersal:
There are 40 bulls and 300 heifers on the properties, which total 250 acres. Bulls and
heifers are conservatively assumed to be 2.0 and 1 .2 animal units, respectively.
(Animal unit = 1000 Ib.) Bulls are in corrals, while heifers are in freestalls. The Mass
Balance of Nitrogen Loading calculation shows that 24,847 Ib. of nitrogen is
generated by the stock on the properties, while 54,493 will be imported from the main
dairy facility. Two crops per year on the properties, one of corn and one of wheat,
require 116,250 lbs. of nitrogen. One crop of alfalfa per year on the properties, require
120,000 lbs. of nitrogen. Either of these choices comfortably exceeds the total from
the manure.
Conclusion:
The Mass Balance of Nitrogen Loading calculation for the additional properties
shows that this acreage is capable of handling the disposal of the manure from the
main dairy site, as well as the manure from the bulls and heifers on the properties.
Refer to Mass Balance of Nitrogen Loading, Appendix IA.
"Western Design/David Avila 2001
