BH K L E I N F E L D E R
r
6 SITE RECONNAISSANCE
r
6.1. METHODOLOGY AND LIMITING CONDITIONS
Mr. Kevin Staples, Kleinfelder Staff Engineer, conducted a site reconnaissance on February 13,
2004 to assess and photograph present site conditions. The approximate site boundaries are
r shown on Plate 2, "Site Map," and color photographs of the site are presented on Plates 3-4
(Appendix A). The site conditions discussed below are limited to readily apparent
environmental conditions observed.
6.2. GENERAL SITE SETTING
r
The site is approximately 46-acres in size. The site is located east of Hansen Road, west of
Lammers Road, and north of Schulte Road (15000 Schulte Road) in Tracy, California. The
`- northern portion of the site consists primarily of fallow agricultural property, the southern
portion of the site is for industrial use and consists of two stormwater ponds and a large
warehouse at the time of Kleinfelder's assessment.
r
The northern portion of the subject site consists primarily of fallow agricultural land with
vegetated and barren portions. A standpipe was noted on the west side of the access road to the
subject site. Fiber optic line markers were noted on the northern portion of the site, appearing to
trend in an east/west direction, then redirecting to a north/south by means of a marking across
Schulte Road to the north. A slight soil berm is located along edges of this agricultural portion
of the subject site. An irrigation pipe was noted trending north/south through the barren portion
of the site and was connected to a manhole type structure displaying underground piping
possibly used for irrigation or drainage of the property. There were approximately six of these
- structures with pressure gauges. A concrete standpipe was also noted in the southwest portion of
the northern portion of the site. Two underground utility vaults were noted on the western side
of the access road to the subject site, one was noted just west of the standpipe and irrigation
L piping structures, and the other was located west of the warehouse.
The southern portion of the site consists of a large warehouse, approximately 7.5 acres (327,000
L square feet) in size which contains products manufactured in the adjacent (east) Owens-Illinois
Glass Containers, Inc. facility. The warehouse contains products such as beer, glass, juices,
frappaccino, and Crystal Geyser bottles. The only room located in the warehouse is a bathroom
located on the northwest comer. Domestic water for personal use is maintained through a
polyvinyl tank located north of the warehouse near the fire tank. A fire tank is located northwest
of the warehouse, nearby is a monitoring well, and an industrial well/fire well (near the western
► boundary). Also located north of the warehouse is a stormwater runoff pond, just south of the
barren fallow land, in the northern portion of the site. A septic tank area with tank and leach
field, trending northward, are located north of the warehouse, and bathroom area. An additional
r stormwater runoff pond is located south of the warehouse, but contained no runoff at the time of
40351.P01 /ST04R354 Page 20 of 30
Copyright 2004,Kleinfelder, Inc.
