Box 2009
Stockton , CA 95201
RE : Background Soil Sample Test Results
Owens- Illinois/Tracy
RAH Project #261 . 5
Dear Mr . Favila :
As per our telephone conversation on Tuesday afternoon , 7 February
1989 , you requested that we obtain a background soil sample in order
to verify the marginal levels of lead in soil found below the 1460
gallon waste oil concrete tank . Therefore , on Wednesday morning , 6
February 1989 , we collected one background soil sample approximately
100 feet due east and 50 feet west of W . Schulte Road from 0- 12"
using the same sampling equipment and material as per our original
underground tank sampling methodology as mentioned in the letter to
you dated 21 December 1988 .
As you can see , the background soil sample turned out to be 24 mg/kg
of lead. This would therefore indicate the soil in this area
appears to be higher than normal for naturally occurring lead . We
do not believe there is a problem and hereby request your approval
to backfill and close this tank .
Your immediate response would be most appreciated . Thank you .
Sincerely ,
iro a aD
Ray nd A . Henry , Jr . /
Principal /
RAH/gph
enclosure
cc : Mr . Dan McKenzie
