The notice describes the proposal by San
Joaquin County, to construct two wind powered turbines with a maximum height of 361-
feet. Each turbine will have three 100-foot long blades mounted on a 226-foot tail
tower, with a 500 square-foot foundation. The proposed site is adjacent to the
Department of Water Resources (DWR) California Aqueduct, and located at the rear of
Safeway distribution Center, which is near the intersection of Mountain House Road and
Schulte Road. The location for the two wind turbines is approximately 300-feet from the
eastern embankment for the California Aqueduct.
The proposed site modifications to Safeway Distribution Center are in close proximity to
DWR's aqueduct, and right of way; therefore, the applicant should survey the area to
ensure they do not encroach on DWR's right of way either permanently or during
construction. Any impact from the proposed project that affects DWR right of way will
require the Developer to obtain an encroachment permit from DWR. Information on
DWR encroachment permits can be viewed at:
http://,,.,wwdoe,NAtate.r.(-,a.gov/Se,rvict-,-,/Real Estate/Encroach Rellindex.cfm
The information submitted does not provide enough detail for DWR to make an
informed decision on potential affects a large wind turbine would pose to the integrity of
the California Aqueduct. Additional information and detail will be needed. Please
provide DWR with a copy of any project information when it becomes available for
public review.
