Analysis of Existing Lagoon:
Estimated depth- 30 feet, total. The soil samples taken from boring taken 30 feet west of the lagoon
(MDS-1), were tested for phosphorus and total dissolved solids. The results indicate that there is possibly
lateral movement of seepage from the lagoon. Fortunately, the clay layers of the lower strata appear to be
slowing seepage downward toward the ground water. In consideration that the boring was taken next to
the lagoon where many years of exposure to"head pressure"from standing water in the lagoon, there has
been no penetration of surface water below the depth of 35 feet . It appears that due to several clay layers
through the profile, both the surface water and the lagoon water have been slowed down and stopped. The
nitrate ppm at the 35' sample is 23 while the ppm at the 40' sample is ND(non detectable). Moreover, the
water table in the area is at approximately 85'. Also, the USCS class is CL,which is usually classified as a
Group III soil. Group III soils generally have very low permeability, good structural features, and only low
to moderate shrink-swell potential.
14
