August 26,2002
` Job Number:LG02-286
Page 6
VI. GEOLOGY, SOILS,AND PERCOLATION TEST
The surface geology at the site is shown on Marchand's and Bartow's map and is
composed of Pleistocene Upper Member Modesto Formation consisting of sand with minor
gravel and silts(Plate 6).
The surface and near surface soils located at the site are reported to be the Tokay fine
sandy loam(no. 256) (Plate 7)6. An excerpt from the San Joaquin Soil Survey describes the
Tokay fine sandy loam as the following: "This very deep, well drained, nearly level soil is on
low fan terraces.Typically, the surface layer is grayish brown fine sandy loam about 19 inches
thick. The subsoil is grayish brown, brown, and pale brown fine sandy loam about 26 inches
thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches is pale brown fine sandy loam. Permeability is
moderately rapid in the Tokay soil." Table 4 presents some selected properties of the Tokay fine
sandy loam.
` Table 4.
Selected Soil Properties of the Tokay fine sandy loam.
San Joaquin County Soil Survey Report.'
Soil Name and Map Depth(in) Unified Soil Salinity Soil Septic tank
.w Symbol Classification mmhos/cm Reaction absorption
PH fields
Tokay fine sandy 0-19:Fine sandy loam.
