F
January 17, 2006 Page 10
RNC PROJECT NUMBER 41204B
Fbeen deposited almost continuously since the Jurassic (about 160 million years ago). Great
oil fields have been found in southernmost San Joaquin Valley and along anticlinal uplifts
k on its southwestern margin. In the Sacramento Valley, the Sutter Buttes, the remnants of
r + an isolated Pliocene volcano, rise above the valley floor.
M
E 4.3 Soils
t
I
The soils covering the subject property are varied, but typical of those associated with the
Mehrten Formation. The Mehrten Formation is a complex unit of volcanically derived
sediments mixed with cemented andesitic mudflows. Intermixed with the cemented
mudflows are intervals of"black sands", stream gravels, silt, and clay, interbedded with
intervals of dense tuff breccia. While sand and gravel intervals are highly permeable and
productive, tuff breccia intervals act as confining layers. The thickness of this unit varies
1 between 200 and 1,200 feet.
4.4 Groundwater
r The groundwater setting in the area of the subject property is complex and unpredictable
due to the geologic setting. As stated in Section 4.3, the Mehrten Formation is cut with
randomly spaced confining layers that will create perched water tables. At best, shallow
groundwater flow can be predicted to be topographically controlled. Discussions with the
current property owner about the new well indicated that the production zone is 300' or
f more below the ground surface at the well location.
There is no definitive information available upon which to draw a conclusion as to
groundwater flow ow direction beneath the subject property.
5.0 USER PROVIDED INFORMATION
3
A User Questionnaire was submitted by RNC Environmental to Gary McEnerney',
Fi requesting certain information about the users knowledge of the property.
