01 May 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 07-1516
of the 19 September 1991 report submission.
-•• 26 May 1992:A Site Inspection Report was prepared by URS Consultants and dated 26 May
1992. At the time of the 1992 report, the property consisted of two hangars (one an
office/shop),two storage areas and an airstrip.Outside the office/shop/hangar was a chemical
batch unit and holding tank. Immediately east from the office/shop/hangar was an airplane
parking strip where engine oil maintenance was performed.Approximately 50 feet east from
the parking strip was a fenced barrel storage area surrounded by machinery and debris. South
' from the office/shop/hangar was a concrete pad and sump where chemical residue was
washed from airplanes and equipment.Approximately 160 feet southeast from the sump and
adjacent to the second hangar was a chemical storage area;north of the chemical storage area
t ' was a 6,500-gallon holding tank located within the gravel rinse basin. Two empty USTs were
located on the property, one(aviation gasoline)within the airplane parking strip and one east
from the southern hangar. The report noted that four ASTs were located on the property,
three stored from a nearby former service station and one used to hold fuel when the USTs
were emptied. The report provided a history of the known contaminant issues on the
property.
Underground Storage Tank(USTs) Removals
• 1989: Three 6,000-gallon USTs (two aviation fuel one unleaded gasoline) were removed
from the site in June 1989 without SJCEHD permits. AGE has no direct knowledge that
investigations of the tank pit area have been performed; the UST location appears to have
been northwest from the now-demolished hangar/office building, but this is not certain. A
SJCEHD permit worksheet from 1990 shows three 6,000-gallon USTs, but no removal
documentation.
• 1992: One 1,000-gallon UST (unleaded gasoline) was removed from the site in November
1992 without SJCEHD permits. In May 1993 confirmation sampling was performed by
Geological Audit in the approximately 16'x 8'x 8'tank pit;two samples were collected from
the tank pit and one from the stockpile. The samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX),Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-g)
and Total Lead. The results of the analyses inferred non-detect for BTEX and TPH-g and low
levels of lead (11 - 15 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg)) where the detection level was 1
mg/kg.This UST location appears to have been south from the former airplane parking strip.
A closure letter from the SJCEHD for this UST removal was issued on 21 December 1993.
Department of Pesticide Re ulg ation
• The subject property company and address was issued a citation (#001-ACP-SJ-05/06) for
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
