PRECIPITATION AND Eto DATA FOR TRACY, CA
July 0.28 8.68 0.28 -
August 1.05 7.75 0.25 -
September 0.84 5.70 0.19 -
October 1.06 4.03 0.13 --
November 2.10 2.10 0.07 -
December 2.38 1.55 0.05 0.83
TOTALS(in.) 13.18 57.0 ------ 2.21
The Table illustrates that evapotranspiration far exceeds precipitation, even when using higher
rainfall data that exceeds normal rainfall data by 28% (10.33 in. vs. 13.18 in.). Only in the months
of December and January, and possibly November and February would deep percolation potentially
occur. This data illustrates a relatively high potential for there to be significant evapotranspiration
(or bare soil surface evaporation).
III. NITRATE LOADING STUDY FINDINGS
A. WASTEWATER FLOW VOLUME PROJECTIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
Wastewater Flow Volume Projections
To determine nitrate-nitrogen loading from this project, wastewater flow volumes must be
determined as accurately as possible. Typically, loading projections are based on the maximum
anticipated wastewater flows, occurring daily, weekly, monthly, or for singular events. The number
of people on-site for this project at any given time will be quite variable. It is my understanding that
no one will live on-site permanently. An average daily flow(ADF) of effluent generally accepted
from a four bedroom house is 400 gallons per day(gpd). However, considering there are only three
residential units, each with one bathroom, it is reasonable that the ADF can be reduced to 300 gpd.
Additionally, exclusively taking the proposed Prayer and Mediation Building into consideration, it
is anticipated there will be only two meetings per month on average, consisting of approximately 20
people. Wastewater flows from this structure will be minimal. Therefore, 300 gpd is a realistic flow
rate for the entire facility. As will be demonstrated in Conclusions Section, calculations show the
soil will accept up to 596 gpd, which is almost twice the anticipated ADF.
Wastewater Characteristics
Considering wastewater from the entire facility, blackwater will originate from toilets and graywater
from dishwashing, showers, laundry and hand washing. The potential for a higher organic loading
exists from kitchen use, which only exists in three of the four residential units. However, it is
imperative that in order to reduce this potential higher organic loading, all food wastes must be
handled as solid wastes and disposed of as such. Additional wastewater constituents may consist of
Page -6-
