1
Design and Specifications
EI
exterior wall. Gratings, if required, shall be constructed of either fiberglass or aluminum.
Each grating section shall be fitted for ease of replacement.
EQUIPMENT
1, Pumping Equipment. All batch pumps within the system shall be semivortex or full-vortex
submersible, unless otherwise stated. Where required, each pump shall be guiderail-installed
to assist in easy replacement or servicing. AquaClear reserves the right to use either sub-
merged or dry pumps according to application environmental conditions. Motors shall be
constructed with open windings and shall be air-filled with Class F insulated, moisture-
resistant copper windings. Motor shafts shall be sealed with a dual mechanical shaft seal. in-
tegral motor and pump shaft shall be corrosion-protected.
2. Pump Motors. All pump motors shall operate from either a 115-vac, single-phase, 60-Hz or
230-vac, 3-phase, 60-Hz electrical power source.
3. Pump Housing Construction. Pump and motor housing shall be of cast iron or bronze. No
suction strainers or screens of any type shall be used. All fasteners shall be of stainless steel
or equivalent material.
cl
4. Effluent Batch & Sump Pumps. Discharge pumps shall be selected to satisfy the flow
requirements of the pressure filters, the ultraviolet purifier (if applicable), and the batch-cycle
requirements of the system.
5. Limiting Flow Devices. No valve or similar volume-limiting devices shall be installed on the
liquid suction or discharge ends of any pump unless authorized by the factory.
6. Electrical Process and Motor Control. A custom-designed electrical control system shall
be housed in a NEMA-approved electrical box and located remote from the treatment plant.
Each chamber containing electrical process equipment shall have a single water-resistant
junction box located externally to-the tank. All pump`wires shall be directed by wirewrap
from this junction box to the primary STP control panel. All onsite electrical work shall be
the responsibility of the owner.
e
7. Electrical Motor Control Panel Specification. The electrical, system shall be a solid-state
PC (programmable controller), Bio-Pure Model 50-ECP. The control panel shall incorporate
the use of.a high-reliability, solid-state controller. Each control panel and junction box shall
be manufactured to AquaClear specifications by a UL- and NEMA-approved, licensed elec-
trical contractor. All treatment plant functions will be programmed into the microprocessor
memory of the solid-state controller. Memory functions will be programmed by AquaClear
prior to shipping. Final programming will be accomplished onsite during plant startup by
AquaClear or their representative.
All relays and direct operational control equipment in the control panel shall be solid-state.
Functions for the program in the solid-state system shall be protected from possible loss by a
permanent EPROM which shall be either field-programmable or factory-programmable.
. 11
