3.9 Additional Analyses
Although not required by the Standard 40 protocol,Clearwater Ecological Systems requested that
additional sampling and analyses be completed to evaluate the performance of the Model CWW-
450 for nitrification and denitrification. Plant effluent samples only were collected for a one
week period during November 1992, with analyses completed for ammonia nitrogen and nitrate
nitrogen. Samples, both influent and effluent, were collected one day every other week for the
period of December 23, 1992 through March 3, 1993. These samples were analyzed for the
f -nitrogen series (ammonia, nitrate and totaljeldalii nitrogen):-Analyses were completed using
EPA Method 350.1 for ammonia-nitrogen,EPA Method 300 for nitrate-nitrogen and EPA Method
351.2 for TKN.
The results of the analyses are tabulated in Appendix D. The results of all analyses are reported
as mg/L as N. For.the samples collected during the evaluation, influent ammonia ranged from
8.8 to 20 mg/L (averaging 15 mg/L), while effluent ammonia ranged from <0.5 to 1.4 mg/L
(averaging 0.76 mg/L). The influent nitrate was not analyzed for as the concentration is typically
<0.5 mg/L.. Effluent nitrate ranged from 0.2 to 2.3 mg/L, with an average of 1.4 mg/L. Influent
TKN ranged from 15 to 36 mg/L (averaging 26 mg/L.) and the effluent ranged from 1.0 to 2.4
mg/L (averaging 1.8 mg/L).
4.0 REFERENCES
1. Grady, Jr., C.P., and H.C.
