A percolation test is the best method to determine
the suitability of the soils for a septic disposal area. Please see the next section for percolation <
test results. Generally speaking, coarser-grained, sandy soils have much greater potential for
percolation than fine-grained or cemented soils.
6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION
6.1 Percolation Test Locations
A site map indicating the locations of the percolation test holes is included as Plate 1 in the
appendix of this report. (
6.2 Number of Percolation Tests
A total of four (4) percolation tests were conducted on the subject site; one (1) shallow and one
(1) deep hole on each proposed parcel.
6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation
One (1) shallow and one (1) deep soil borings were advanced on each proposed parcel with a
truck-mounted deep rock augur rig on October 8, 2007.
A 1.5-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of
water in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of "pea gravel" were placed in the
bottom of the open soil boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. "Pea
gravel" was then used to backfill in the annular space.
Presaturation of the percolation test holes occurred on October 8, 2007. The depth of water
used to pre-soak was 12 inches above the bottom of the boring.
6.4 Condition of Borings after Presaturation
After the 24-hour soak period, the presaturated holes were found to be intact on day of testing.
The shallow hole on parcel one was found to be wet, while the deep hole on parcel 1 and .1-()
shallow and deep holes on parcel 2 were found to be dry on the day of testing (October 9, l
2007).
902 Industrial Way•Lodi,CA 95240•209.367.3701 •Fax 209.369.4228 02007 Neil O.Anderson&Associates,Inc
