N% ..
Mr.Jim Hoagland
January 19,2004
Page 5
3.6 Expected On-Site Maximum Septic Tank Usage
Septic tank use will be from essentially three separate businesses occupying the same building.
Roland Construction portion of the building is includes the 5,420 square foot constriction office
` and a 3,380 square foot construction warehouse. Two 1,560 square foot tenant spaces with !3 ,
separate restrooms will share the use of the onsite septic system with the Roland Construction
building.
Twenty-five(25) em ll ogees are estimated to employed by Roland Constriction and the two
businesses that will occupy the two tenant buildings. The employee categories and average daily
► flow rates associated with the facility are shown below in Table 2.
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references.
The uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County Sewage Standards (1996),
Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA(1980). According to the San Joaquin County
Sewage Standards, the office use rate should be 30 gallons per day. The San Joaquin County
Sewage Standards are based on the 1963 Manual of Septic Tank Practice. The text from Crites
and Tchobanoglous (1998)(Table 4-2)mentions that the typical use rate is 13 gallons per day for
an office worker. The EPA(1980) Design Manual (Table 4-6) indicates the typical use rate is
14.5 gallons per day for an office worker.
Since Crites and Tchobanoglous(1998) information is the most current available, our office
` believes it provides the best estimate of waste water flow for the office worker category. It is
estimated that construction employees, who report to a job site rather than the construction
office, probably would not be using the restroom facilities at the main office. However, they may
` still visit the office during the morning hours. For those occasions where the field employees do
visit the office, three(3) gallons per day use rate is estimated.
The rates presented from the references provide general guidance but often do not always reflect
a match in usage. Careful examination, professional judgement, and experience are necessary to
` select a reasonable flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for the uses associated with this
facility are presented in the following table.
6.
S9IRC
