Mr. Stephen R. Thumlert
Siegfried Engineering, Inc.
property pursuant to ASTM Designation E-1528, Standard Practice for Environmental Site
Assessments: Transaction Screen Process.
The small residence located in the southeaster portion of the parcel was reportedly constructed in
the late 1930s. Houses constructed prior to 1978 may contain lead-based paint hazards (paint, dust,
or soil). Houses constructed prior to 1977 may contain asbestos-containing building materials in
insulation, ceiling/floor tiles, and/or exterior siding. However, the property owner (Mr. Taylor) had
no specific knowledge of any asbestos or lead-based paint hazards associated with the residence.
Two water supply wells are located on the property, one near the small residence in the southeast
portion of parcel (Well No. 1) and one near the northeast corner of the parcel (Well No. 2).
According to the available information, the wells were drilled prior to 1928. Well No. 1 was
reportedly drilled to 267 feet. The original well was reportedly sealed off in June 1962 and replaced
by a new well drilled to 670 feet. Well No. 2 was reportedly installed to a depth of 504 feet, but
caved in and was filled with sand to approximately 360 feet in 1964, The pump was reportedly
pulled and the top of the well sealed in February 1999. Available documentation of well details and
activities are included in Attachment F. No testing records were available, but neither well
reportedly had any contamination problems other than periodic positive results for bacteria, which
were removed by disinfecting the well.
Although the presence of the water supply wells may provide a conduit for vertical migration of
surface contaminants, there is no evidence of any surface contamination at the property.
4.0 RECOMAMNDATIONS FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION OR REMEDIATION
Ground Zero makes no recommendations for further action at this time. However, any existing or
future water supply well for domestic use should periodically be sampled and analyzed for domestic
suitability. In addition, any proposed modification or demolition of the existing residence should
consider potential hazards associated with asbestos containing building materials and/or lead-based
paint.
5.0 REPORT CERTIFICATION
This Surface and Subsurface Contamination Report was performed under the direct supervision of
John Lane, California Registered Environmental Assessor No. 6305, Mr. Lane has prepared this
report and submits that methods and procedures employed in the development of the report conform
to minimum industry standards.
This assessment was performed at the Client's request utilizing methods and procedures consistent
with good commercial or customary practices designed to conform to acceptable industry standards.
The independent conclusions represent Ground Zero's best professional judgment based on the
conditions that existed and the information and data available to us during the course of this
data/groundze/phasel/canepa.doc
