Wastewater Treatment System .. `-'
FALL CREEK
Engineering Report ENGINEERING,INC.
are also subject to surge loads, due to periodic cleaning of tanks, fermenters, chillers and other
large vessels.
2.2.1. Peak Process Water Flow Estimates
Process wastewater flow rates at the Winery were estimated using the Napa County empirical
' formula, which estimates process wastewater flow in relation to annual wine production. Peak
winery wastewater discharge (PD) in gallons per day (gpd) is found using the following formula:
%W
PD _ 1.5*WP
60days
where WP is the annual wine production in gallons.
The Winery estimates that they produce approximately 170 gallons of wine per ton of grapes
processed and under the current expansion plan approximately 390 tons of grapes will be crushed
annually. In the 10-year plan the crush may be increased to approximately 928 tons. Wine
. production and peak crush wastewater flow estimates for these production level estimates are
shown in Table 2.2.
Table 2.2. Wastewater Flow Estimates
`. Yearly Process Water Flow Estimates
Due to the seasonal nature of the work at a Winery, wastewater flows vary monthly depending
on the stage of production. Peak daily wastewater production occurs during the crush
(September through October). Other activities throughout the year such as bottling, barrel
washing, and other cleaning and maintenance activities also generate process wastewater. Table
2.3 shows the anticipated percentage of total annual wastewater expected each month at Jessie's
Grove Winery. The annual flow distribution was derived from a combination of published
values (Storm, 2000) and process wastewater flows measured at other Wineries in the Lodi area.
Iftw
.IESSIE'S GROVE WINERY MAY 2002
4
