Wastewater Treatment System `' +,. FALL CREEK
Engineering Report ENGINEERING,INC.
4. DESIGN CRITERIA AND CALCULATIONS— 10-YEAR PLAN
The calculations performed in Section 3 were repeated to determine if the treatment system was
sized adequately to process the increased crush flows projected under the 10-year plan. The
wetland has been designed to remove biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in the Winery's
process wastewater by at least 95% based on design flows of 3,940 gallons per day, organic
%W process
of 164 lbs/day, and a surface loading rate of 745 lbs BOD/ac-day. The system will
%W remain unchanged from its configuration in the current flow regime.
\r
All of the water balance and surface loading rate calculations described in Section 3 were
Performed again to analyze the system under the projected 10- ear flows. Nothing changed in
► the calculations except the flow rates of both the process water and the stormwater. FCE
performed this second set of water balance and surface loading rate calculations to assess the
performance of the waland treatment system under future flow conditions.
4.1. Septic Tank
The 5,000-gallon installed previously, will be used in the 10-year plan to settle screened
wastewater. Table 4.1 shows the expected detention times in the septic tank for projected
' monthly flows under the 10-year plan. During the months of crush (August through November)
%W detention times range from 1.5 to 3 days. In the summer months, detention time is longer
because little process and storm water enter the system. Occasionally during the winter
detention time could be as little as one and a half day due to stormwater entering the system.
Table 4.1 Septic Tank Detention Times
Septic Detention
Month Inflow Time
(gpd) day
January 3,844 1.8
February 4,433 1.6
tom, March 3,255 2.2
` April 1,795 3.9
May 1,007 7.0
.- June 494 14.2
_ July 429 16.3
August 2,375 2.9
- September 4,212 1.7
_ October 4,456 1.6
November 3,625 1.9
December 4.160 1.7
4.2.
