%W
..
EK
REPORT OF WASTE DISCHARGE ENGINEERING,INC.
1. INTRODUCTION
`' Jessie's Grove Winery (Spenker Ranch, Inc.), located at 1973 W. Turner Rd, in Lodi, California
`, (APN#013-050-17), is a wine producing facility and vineyard. The family has owned the
property since 1872. The Winery is situated on a 320-acre parcel, which has vineyards, pasture,
an oak grove, and a residence in addition to the winery. The facility includes an office, several
outbuildings (sheds and garages), a tasting room, and outdoor wine storage. The property is
► located in a primarily agricultural area within the San Joaquin River drainage basin and has
`,, virtually flat topography. The nearest residence off the property is three eighths of a mile away
from the Winery. A vicinity map is shown in Figure 1.1; Figure 1.2 shows the winery property
and layout; and Figure 1.3 shows the existing facility and wastewater systems.
Under the current expansion plan, the winery anticipates crushing approximately 390 tons of
grapes annually producing approximately 66,300 gallons of wine, which will be divided into
bulk wine and approximately 5000 cases of Jessie's Grove Wine. The Winery anticipates no
' production increase above this level in the next five years. However, in the following 5 years
. they could increase production as much as 538 tons, for a total annual crush of 928 tons (158,000
gallons). Water for domestic, agricultural, and winery processes is supplied by wells located on
the property. Sanitary and process wastewater is disposed of in separate on-site systems.
'► In 2002, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board required that the Winery submit a
`, Report of Waste Discharge, including a technical report. In response to this requirement, the
`. Winery has retained Fall Creek Engineering(FCE) to evaluate the existing process wastewater
system, identify and design proposed improvements, and prepare a technical report to address the
%' concerns of the Report of Waste Discharge.
`, After evaluating the existing system, FCE completed a technical report and is preparing
engineering design plans to improve the existing process wastewater disposal system at the
' Winery. The proposed improvements include:
•W
r,. (1) Installing a pretreatment system consisting of a hyperbolic screen to separate wastewater
solids from the liquids;
(2) Installing a treatment system which will include a 5,000 gallon septic tank followed by a
k. 0.22 acre sub-surface flow shallow wetland;
`. (3) Installing a pump basin and pumping system to reuse treated effluent to irrigate a grass
field; and
`.
`, (4) Installing a solid set sprinkler system to irrigate 0.6 acres of pasture.
w
`.
%W
JESSIE's GROVE WINERY 1 FEBRUARY 2004
