` 3.1.3 Storm Water and Combined Flows
The wastewater drains at Jessie's Grove Winery are not covered, therefore, both process
wastewater and storm water enter the wastewater system. FCE estimated storm water runoff
from the facility in order to determine the combined flow estimate (storm water and process
wastewater).
In order to estimate storm water runoff, FCE delineated the drainage area of the winery,
including the winery work areas and driveways that will drain to the wastewater system. It was
assumed that the surrounding horse corrals, pasture, orchard and garden, oak tree grove, and
lawns would not contribute any significant amount of storm water to the winery wastewater
system. The winery area (currently 52,000 sf) had an average impervious coefficient (C) of 0.88.
In the 10-year plan, the Winery plans to increase the number of fermentors, which will increase
the facility area to approximately 56,000 sf. See Figure 3.1 for details.
FCE compiled monthly rainfall data from the California Department of Water Resource's Data
Exchange Center(CDEC) for the closest station, in Stockton, California. Runoff in gallons was
calculated using the following equation:
. V --' *7.481*C*r(in)*A(sf)
Vs
where Vs is the monthly volume of runoff in gallons, C is the runoff coefficient of the Winery
facility, r is monthly rainfall in inches, and A is the area of the Winery facility in square feet.
- Monthly rainfall data was obtained from the California Department of Water Resources station
in Stockton(Gage Station ID STK). In order to calculate rainfall statistics for average and 100-
year return annual precipitation years, FCE first compiled monthly total rainfall data from water
