2-104
SAN JOAQUIN FARM BUREAU FEDERATION
MEETING TODAY'S CHALLENGES / PLANNING FOR TOMORROW
Attn: Raymond Hoo
San Joaquin County Community Development Department
Development Services Division
1810 East Hazleton Avenue
Stockton, CA
95205
Re: PA-1300122 (ZR) (Pre-application)
Dear Mr. Hoo,
The San Joaquin Farm Bureau Federation (Farm Bureau) is a private, non-profit membership based
advocacy organization serving approximately 4,100 agricultural and associate members in San Joaquin
County. Our organization keeps abreast of local land use issues through our Land Use and Environmental
Affairs Committee so that we can ensure the agricultural interests in San Joaquin County are protected.
The Williamson Act is designed to maintain land for agricultural use or for use as conservation land. The
utilization of the Williamson Act in San Joaquin County allows production agriculture to prosper,
growing the economy, providing jobs, and protecting natural resources.
Reclassifying AG-40 land that is under a Williamson Act contract to"crossroads commercial" is directly
adverse to the intent of the Williamson Act and the interests of the community at large.
Furthermore, there is no discussion in the application of what the applicants intend to do with their
Williamson Act contract, as they cannot operate commercially under the Williamson Act.The Farm
Bureau is adamantly opposed to the cancellation of such a contract because the benefit to having land
under the Williamson Act is tremendous for this county.
We advise the Planning Commission to reject this application, as doing so would keep the land for its
intended purpose under the Williamson Act and agricultural rather than commercial.
3290 NORTH AD ART ROAD • STOCKTON, CA • 95215 • (209)931-4931 • (209)931-1433 Fax
WWW.SJFB.ORG
