[6] Cont.
- Denitrification occurs under reduced oxygen supply or anaerobic conditions. This happens when
water or effluent fills the soil pores. With a clay soil structure, soil saturation is easily achievable,
thus promoting an anaerobic environment. Under these conditions, nitrate-nitrogen serves as an
electron acceptor and is reduced to harmless gaseous nitrogen forms.
As can be noted, there are opposing and conflicting processes between molecular nitrate
denitrification and clogging mat degradation. Denitrification takes place under anaerobic conditions,
however, clogging mat degradation is retarded. Therefore, it is our opinion that the use of seepage
pits are necessary since anaerobic conditions will probably prevail and promote enitrification, and
not clogging mat degradation.
[7i LEWTATIONS
The conclusions of this Soil Suitability Study are based upon current information concerning the
location and results of the percolation testing, and the highest anticipated depth to groundwater.
The results of the percolation testing can only be assumed to be representative of the subsurface
conditions encountered in the area of the testing.
It is our opinion that the findings included in this study are a reasonable assessment of the current
subject property conditions. This opinion cannot constitute a guarantee or warranty, either
expressed or implied.
Respectfully submitted,
QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTION, INC.
Don Chesney, R.E.A. ess Wry, P.E.
OtyC I
r li ntrol
