E
Musca Olive Products - 3 - 12'June 2002
2) Describe the criteria for determination of wastewater discharge to either the.Title 27
wastewater ponds or the land application system. For Figure 3, identify the disposal location
for each waste stream..
3) Table 3 presents 15t, 2"d, and 3`a processing rinses; the estimated volume includes a comment
"each rinse;"is the total flow for the rinses 50,000 gal/day or some other number? Estimate
the volume and present the chemical analyses for transport water, pitter water, accumulation
water, floatation water, canning brine spillage, water softener regeneration brine, clean-in-
place solutions, cooling tower blowdown, and boiler blowdown.
4) Table 17 presents a salt uptake rate of approximately 860-2,840 lbs/ac-year; Table 11
presents dissolved inorganic solids loading rate of 34,000 lbs/ac-year,provide a discussion
of how the wastewater system protects groundwater quality.
5S6ctiori-11-1'd c§-cr'ibcs'disassociation of-bicarbo' nate ions insoiIbsed-onsoil-pH `At-what_ -
soil pH is the disassociation expected to occur? Is that soil pH anticipated to occur in the
land application areas?
6) What are the-DIS and TDS effluent limits proposed by Musco for these WDRs? How will
t water quality be protected with these values? `
7) What is the flow rate (in weekly average and daily max)proposed by Musco for these
revised WDRs? What is the anticipated flow rate in five years?
8) The water balance doesn't include stormwater runoff from the land application areas, Please
address the omission and resubmit the water balance if necessary. Previous discussions with
Mr. Hall indicated stormwater would be bypassed around the 114-million gallon pond based
on some criteria. Is the bypass still planned? If so, describe the bypass system and proposed
criteria for bypass of stormwater falling on the land application areas.
9) Provide an evaluation of the odor generation potential of the 114-million gallon and the
1-million gallon storage ponds. If mechanical aerators will be required, evaluate the
horsepower required to maintain 1.0 mg/1 dissolved oxygen in the wastewater ponds.
-10)- For each application area, describe how tailwater and stormwater are retained within the
6-- "" application areas'boundaries: Presentlhe-planneid locatibnofthe cul-l'ection'ditches;sumps,
and pumping stations.
11) Section 11.3.2 describes application of wastewater during the winter to encourage leaching
of salts so as not to hinder crop growth. It is noted that application of wastewater during
rain events will likely be prohibited in the tentative WDRs.
12) Please provide the following clarifications:
a. In Appendix I, Figures 4-1 and 4-2, locate the site on the drawings.
b. In Appendix F, locate the site on the cross section.
c. Appendix E, Figure 3 contains an apparent error on the number of acres.
d. In Table 9, explain footnote "k."
e. In Table 8, explain footnote "o" as nitrate or nitrogen.
f. In Table 5, explain footnote "m" as nitrate or nitrogen.
V,1San Joaquin_NonlSStaMObrirnTlMusco wJuae 2002HaU 061202Aoc
