` Surface &Subsurface Contamination Report Page 10
Sandhu Property
Project No. 522.1
` March 9, 2006
and silt alluvium deposited on the valley floor. Hotchkiss & Balding, in their
► 1971 US Geological Survey report, Geology. Hydrology and Water Quality of the
Tracy-Dos Palos Area San Joaquin Valley California, (Open File Report 72-
169) described the aquifers and their characteristics for the Tracy-Dos Palos
` area. In the Vernalis area, the recent alluvium is generally less than 100 feet
thick and directly overlies the Tulare Formation, a Plio-Pleistocene age, mixed
clastic sequence of clay, silt, sand and gravel. There is little to distinguish the
contact between the base of the alluvium from the top of the Tulare Formation
A widespread clay deposit, the Corcoran Clay (or E-clay), divides the upper and
lower members of the Tulare Formation. The Tulare sediments lying above the
Corcoran Clay are entirely Pleistocene in age. The Corcoran Clay is about 60
feet thick in the Vernalis area and it serves as an effective aquitard. It lies
approximately 150 to 200 feet below the ground surface. It is believed that most
major irrigation and water supply wells are completed below the Corcoran Clay
zone.
Federal Wetlands
Based on information on the map in the EDR report (Appendix D) the Property
does not include lands recognized in the federal wetlands inventory.
•
Radon
Soil testing by EPA and California Department of Toxic Substance Control show
that naturally occurring radon does not pose a material health risk in the
Central Valley.
., 2.3 Past and Present Land Use of Property
Current
• The Property is the site of an undeveloped parcel of agricultural land.
Prior
The Property was used for several years during the 1940's as a prisoner of war
camp. Before and since then, the Property has been used exclusively for %
agricultural purposes.
2.4 Past and Present Land Use of Adjacent Properties
The adjacent area has generally always been in agricultural use except for lots
adjacent to the southwest. These parcels include several residences and an
agricultural chemical sales and distribution facility.
L 2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
