Based on the results of the EDR report, the two contaminated sites were <br /> further investigated by requesting access to records on file with the San Joaquin <br /> County Environmental Health Department. <br /> California State Military Museum <br /> The museum's website presents summary's of California's military installation. <br /> One of the articles pertains to World War II installations in Vernalis. Included <br /> brief description of the former prisoner of war camp on the Property <br /> (Appendix F). The camp, established late in the war, is said to have housed <br /> ut 25 eI POW's. <br /> 3.2 Local Records Sources <br /> Five sources of information were accessed at the local level. Files from the San <br /> Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, and Assessor's Office were <br /> requested. Air photos were acquired at the San Joaquin County Public Works <br /> 6- Department and the McHenry Museum, a City of Modesto agency. A private <br /> source provided a summary of environmental conditions associated with the <br /> Western Farm Service remedial investigation, and EDR conducted a search for <br /> Sanborn fire insurance maps. <br /> County EHD Records <br /> The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department was contacted in <br /> writing to request access to records documenting environmental conditions at on <br /> two the nearby sites mentioned above. On February 22, 2006, Geo-Phase <br /> Environmental Inc. personnel visited the agency to review the available files. <br /> The following summarizes the information that was found in the files. <br /> 35.100 S. Highway 33, Western Farm Servicevwa <br /> The site is adjacent to the west side of the subject Property. It has been used <br /> since 1969 as a retail agricultural chemical distribution facility. <br /> In 198 th ee derground fuel tanks used to store diesel fuel and gasoline were <br /> remov etroleum odors suggested the soil under tanks had been impacted by <br /> fuel leaks. Subsequently, the impacted soil was excavated and removed. <br /> ` Confirmation soil samples were collected from depths of up to 24 feet below the <br /> ground surface.
