S
NLS§3.3, SSS§ 5.3,5.4. PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS
SSS§ 6.2. To assess the permeability at prescribed depths of the on-site soils, the aforementioned
four percolation test borings were completed in the locations depicted on the Domestic Waste Site Plan
found in Appendix C. Since the proposed disposal area is comparatively large at 60 ft x 160 ft=9,600
sq ft,two sets of perc tests - one shallow and one deep -were conducted on either side of the disposal
area. The two sets of tests are denoted as the East Side Perc Tests and the West Side Perc Tests.
SSS§ 6.3. After drilling the borings, the sidewalls of the shallow borings were scored with a pry-
bar to open potentially smeared sidewalls. The deeper borings could not be scored due to their
depths. Two inches of fine gravel was placed at the bottom and three-inch perforated PVC pipe was
inserted. On June 3, 2008, each boring was pre-saturated with 12 inches of water at 0900 hrs, -24
hrs before the start of testing.
SSS§ 6.4, 6.5. On June 4, 2008, percolation testing commenced. Approximately four inches of
standing water was observed after the 24-hr soak period in the 42-inch West Side Test Boring.
Consequently, EHD Perc Test Procedure#1 was conducted for this test boring. No standing water
was observed in the other three test borings, therefore EHD Perc Test Procedure#2 was conducted.
Testing was done over a four-hour period to induce maximum soil saturation.
East Side perc test results indicate a slow perc rate at 50 minutes per inch(min/in), with 60 min/in
as the maximum rate allowable for shallow perc tests. The deep test at 20 feet exhibited a medium
perc rate of 15.6 min/in, with 30 min/in being the maximum allowable rate.
4
Chesney Consulting
