K L E I N F E L D E R
EXPECT MORE
Following completion of the drilling (8 inch borehole), a 2-inch diameter PVC monitoring
well will be installed in the borings. The soil borings will be advanced approximately 10
feet into groundwater. The monitoring wells will be constructed with schedule 40 PVC
with a 15 foot long .010 inch screened section. The screened section will be placed
approximately 10-feet below and 5-feet above first encountered groundwater. The
screened section will be surrounded by and covered by clean sand filter pack (#2/16). A
1.5 foot bentonite transition seal will be installed above the filter pack. The remaining
annular space above the bentonite seal will be sealed using a neat cement (Type I-
II)/bentonite slurry using approximately 3% bentonite powder. The bottom of the well will
be capped with a threaded PVC cap or a slip cap using stainless steel screws. See Plate
3 for a typical monitoring well construction diagram. Please note the proposed wells
seals (bentonite and grout) are thinner due to the proximity of the well screen to the
surface.
48093.E01/ST07R052/CJC/Iv Page 6 of 15
©2007 Kleinfelder, Inc January 26, 2007
