Mr. Fran Forkas
January 13, 1989
Page 4
MONITORING PROGRAM
Parameters to be measured and the frequency of measurements
are defined in the Waste Discharge Permit. In collectingthe
groundwater, it is important to take the necessary precautions
to obtain samples that are representative of the
watersassing
ing
the monitoring well at the time of sampling. Current
the
practice for obtaining representative same
les following procedures:
1 . pump or bail a minimum of four well volumes from the
well. A well volume is computed each time the well is
sampled and is the volume of water in the bore hole, The
the water in the packing outside the well casing.
volume
is computed by subtracting the distance measured to the water
surface from the total depth
Of he well and multiplying this
result by the area of the
2 . After the 4 omes of aave samplenusng portable ure the pH
and specific conductance
instruments and record the data. This data should be ret
aine
for future reference.
3 . Pump or bail another well volume and repeat step 2
field measurements .
F 4 . Compare the values
samplessincconductance.
appropriate
I they are the ,
of the to
containers for the remainder
differenceParepeat rstep 3euntilutwo.
If there is a significant
successive field measurements yield similar results .
SUMMARY
Four wells are runderethedfor monitoring
characteristics
plant. The recommended locations and depths are anticipated to yield water samples that are
representative of water moving onto the site and off of the
site including the effectiveness of the soils in the
percolation ponds in filter theastewater. Prior
to recommended
constructing the monitoring
that the City submit the report to the RWQCB for review
particularly as regards to our recommended locations for them.
