AEMC believes, and the investigation
facts confirm, that the reservoir contained only locomotive fuel oil derived directly
from crude with no foreign chemical additives.
Toluene was the only volatile organic detected in the three bottom samples collected
from auger borings (AB-5, A13-7 and A13-8) in the south half of the reservoir. No
volatile or semi-volatile organic constituents were detected in the bottom sample
collected from auger boring AB-1. No semi-volatile organics were detected in auger
boring AB-5. Review of results obtained from CAM metal analyses indicated low
and relatively consistent levels - no evidence to suggest metal contamination is a
factor in this environmental investigation.
Subsurface Soil Samples (outside reservoir)
AEMC observed oil contamination in the saturated zone at approximately the 15-
foot depth in both auger borings AB-A and AB-B. No evidence of oil contamination
was detected in auger borings AB-C and AB-D, as well as the soils logged in
monitoring well 1313-4. The following laboratory results for Total Recoverable
Hydrocarbons performed on bottom samples collected from the four auger borings
confirmed AEMC field observations:
-oua> Page 15
