5
Section 5
Conclusions and Recommendations
Diesel Fuel Tank
The GPR survey result., indicate that no underground tank exists in the vicinity of the
suspected 500-gallon underground diesel tank location. The 1983 Johnson & Higgins
Map (see Section 2) is the only known record of this buried tank. Long-time Del
Monte Plant 33 employees do not recall a buried tank at this location; however,
employees do recall an aboveground tank in the same area. Two 6-inch square
footings exist in the concrete of the suspect location; these footings may have helped to
support an aboveground tank.
The available information indicates that an underground tank does not presently exist,
and may never have existed, at the location shown on the 1483 map.
Soil
Visibly contaminated soil around the 500-gallon tank was removed, along with the tank,
in 1985. The soil remaining at the East Miner site does not contain hydrocarbon or
lead contamination at concentrations above recommended cleanup levels as defined by
the LUIFT Manual. No further remedial action is recommended.
r
Groundwater
No groundwater was encountered in :uoy of the East Miner horehooles to a maximum
depth of 66 feet bgs. According to the LUFT Guidance Manual, the hydrocarbon
concentrations detected during the yield investigation do no present a risk to
recommended.
groundwater; therefore, no groundwalei investigation is
Sf U}IM1i1Rk"O1i5,5 5-1
4- 1
