A proposal under
consideration is for the establishment of containment zones where
groundwater water quality objectives cannot be reasonably
achieved. A second public hearing is planned for November 8 ,
1995 in Sacramento, and PHS-EHD suggests you not discontinue or
modify your current onsite activities until a new or revised
policy is adopted.
PHS-EHD does request that you "pulse" or "cycle " your current
groundwater system with adequate "off-line" time to allow
multiple groundwater sampling events to occur. With increasing
Benzene in the northern wells and the inability to accurately
determine the unaffected groundwater hydraulic gradient, PHS-EHD
is concerned that recent groundwater recharge from the past
seasonal high rainfall has altered groundwater conditions in your
site' s area.
By allowing the groundwater gradient to return to conditions not
affected by pumping in MW-3 , accurate groundwater concentrations
and gradient may be obtained.
A Division of San Joaquin County health Care Services
