Former Beacon Station 494 August 8, 1995 <br /> SITE DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND <br /> Former Beacon Station No 494 is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of East <br /> Fremont Street and "D" Street in Stockton, California The site is at an elevation of <br /> approximately 20 feet above mean sea level Stockton is located in the central portion of the <br /> Great Valley Region of California Site facilities include a station building, two product <br /> dispenser islands located south of the station building, and the former underground storage <br /> tank (UST) pit located northeast of the product dispenser islands Locations of these and <br /> other pertinent site features are shown on the Site Plan (Figure 2) <br /> Previous environmental work at the site was performed by AMV A total of nine soil borings <br /> were drilled, with four vapor-extraction wells and five groundwater-monitoring wells <br /> installed by AMV between April and December, 1992 (AMV, February 13, 1995) Locations <br /> of the wells are shown on Figure 2 Groundwater was found to exist at approximately 71 to <br /> 72 feet below ground surface (bgs) In March 1993, the existing USTs were removed from <br /> the site Results of these investigations have indicated the presence of gasoline hydrocarbons <br /> in soil and groundwater beneath the site Remediation activities at the site were initiated in <br /> November 1993 (AMV, April 24, 1995) AMV has reported that the natural groundwater <br /> flow direction prior to remediation activities at the site is toward the west AMV reported <br /> that the groundwater flow direction is toward the pumping well (MW-3) located in the center <br /> of the site (AMV, April 6, 1995) <br /> FIELD WORK <br /> Field work was conducted on June 12 and June 13, I995, in accordance with the Horizon <br /> Site Safety Plan dated June 9, 1995 Prior to drilling, Underground Service Alert was <br /> 1494 11-RPT 2 HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL INC. <br />
