i ATTACHMENT 1
Eaj
d
Interoffice Memo
TO: Noel Schomburg CC: Duane Grady
Lee Talbott
John Bingham
FROM: Charles Clarke
DATE : April 12 , 1988
SUBJECT : Water in Beaver Lagoon
Attached are two copies of an analysis done on the water
and sediment of the holding pond at Beaver Chemical. The
first one was done on heavy metals by Environmental
Services of Chem Bio Corporation . Thallium was added to
the list because of the metal being found on the California
Land Ban`:;sr Its limit is 130 m per litre. As
B P you can see ,
this along with the other metals were all below the limits
dictated either by U. S . EPA or the State of California .
The second report was a sample of the water run at Avganic
Industries . This did show some volatile organics in the
waste water, though in talking with John Bingham, we are not
sure of the source of these particular organics . The
analysis did not show any indication of chlorinated solvents ,
which would be much more difficult to treat , if necessary .
A test for PCB ' s was also done , and found negative as
indicated.
Obviously , the heavy metal sampli_ indicates no problem ,
nor does the one for PCB ' -- . The organic solvents indicates
some presence though not at a tremendously hi=h level . It
is necessary co continue vigilance on keeling such products
- from beim disc'rarge3 into the pont . The sampling for this
was developed for the waste water at Avganic , which has a
sijnificantly .^lg:_._ level Or--ania .ran those detectei here .
Though these numbers --a;: not be Susolute , it does show t`_.t
there is sore '7OC ' s * here . 4-ter r
=viewi ^- - he above
information , if you =ave any fur- _' - lle5: _on3 , _1eaze feel
free to cent_ ct -e .
Charles
cs
Attachment
