PHS/EHD has the following comments for your
consideration.
PHS/EHD concurs that vapor extraction and air sparging are effective remedial alternatives.
The vapor extraction testing done at the site suggest that the remedial method should
decrease the volume of sod contaminants currently known to exist beneath the site. The
draft Plan proposed the installation of two air sparging wells to be used for the remediation
of groundwater contamination evidenced beneath the site.
PHD/EHD recommends that soil samples be collected for analysis during the installation of
the air sparging wells to better delineate the extent of soil contamination from 15 feet below
ground surface to the total depth.
The draft Plan proposed to do vapor testing monthly of the surrounding wells to assess any
possible migration of contaminants which may be facilitated by the operation of the air
sparging system. PHS/EHD requests that during the first quarter of operation that
groundwater samples be collected for laboratory analysis monthly from MW4, MW5, and
MW7.
The draft Pian indicated that two confirmation soil borings were proposed and located on
Figure 6 which they were not. PIease submit a revised Figure 6 locating these soil borings.
PHS/EHD concurs that soil sampling every six months should provide sufficient information
to adequately evaluate the effectiveness of the soil vapor extraction system's operation.
Please consider converting the confirmation soil borings into vapor extraction wells to be
added to the vapor extraction system should soil contamination continue to be evidenced.
A T)ni5ion of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
