PHSIEHD has prepared the following comments for your consideration.
PHSIEHD requested that the groundwater samples that were collected on this date undergo methyl
tertiary butyl ether analysis using the same methodology as for TPH-gas/BTEX analysis.
PHSIEHD noted that the groundwater table had risen approximately 4 feet since October 1995 and
requested that well construction details be included on the analytical summary tables along with depth
to water information.
PHSIEHD also noted that there were (29) 55 gallon drums stored on site. Some drums were not
clearly label, some were empty and some contained soil cutting or waste water. PHSIEHD requested
that the contents of the drums be properly disposed, that the empty drums be removed and that a
disposal summary be prepared and submitted.
While on site, there was a discussion and an evaluation of areas requiring investigation inside the
building, where the underground storage tank had been located. At least three soil borings will be
required to verify the vapor extraction's effectiveness and to determine the extent of residual soil
contamination, if any.
The remediation methodologies which have been used appear thus far to have significantly reduced
the petroleum hydrocarbon plume. Unfortunately, the air sparging system has been off since
approximately March 11, 1996 due to equipment breakage. Please notify PHSIEHD once the air
sparge system is re-started. PHSIEHD looks forward to the time when the site is evaluated for
closure/certification.
If you have any questions or wish to schedule a site inspection, please contact me at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senl r REHS Margaret Lagorio, R CEFIS
Site Mitigation Unit Lead Senior
MM1204LOD1
c: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB c: James DeMera
c: Bob Marty, Advanced Geo Environmental c: John Giannoni
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Seryces
