It is our understanding that a 550-gallon undergroUhd fuel storage Z tank containing leaded gasoline was removed by Thorpe 011 Co. in JaAU.ary, .1967, and that soil samples gollected at that time were contaminated. Three groundwater monitoring wells wore installed in � August 1967, and all showed evidence: of contamilbation. By latke' s 1991, two of these wells had gone dry, and were- replaced b_ji two new i wells in May 1992 . Three additional wells (MW-6 tli. ough XW-8) were completed in May 1993. Figure Z shows the location: of all wells on s'' the site. The newest wells served to delineate th lateral extent of groundwater contamination, and additional monitoring wells are � . not required at. this time. A quarterly monitot-ing program is, : currently in progress. In previous drilling at this site, vadose--zone contamination was detected in only one boring (BIW-1) . This boring io the nearest to the former tank cavity, which is located inside tpe Art & Artists R building, soil samples were collected at 5-foot i*tervals in this boring, but only three were submitted for laboratory analysis. Gasoline contamination was detected in: all three, which ranged in depth from to to 4e feet.
