4 March 1992
(GeoAudit CV 30-34E3--1. 47)
REMOVAL OF FLOATING PRODUCT
The floating product in MW-1 will be removed via a floating product
recovery system. Following the required 30-day public comment
period, a down-hole hydrophobic skimmer and pump will be installed
in MW-1 and connected by fluid recovery hoses to a control box and
above-ground storage tank. A generator will be used to operate the
pump. Upon approval from the Lodi Fire Department, the tank will be
located in the vacant lot across the alley, in the vicinity of MW-
2 . Periodically, as needed, the tank will be connected to a vacuum
truck and the recovered fluid will be pumped out and transported
under manifest to a recycling facility. A similar system was
installed at a nearby site, 521 N. Cherokee Lane, in October 1991.
A representative of Geological Audit will inspect the fluid
recovery system on a weekly basis to see that it is operating
properly and arrange for transportation of recovered fluid.
Inasmuch as the volume of floating product has not.been determined,
it is not possible to estimate the duration of the fluid recovery
operation, but similar opeations require three or more months at
other sites. If, after installation of monitoring wells MW-4 and
MW-5, floating product is encountered in these wells, they will be
similarly connected to the product recovery system to expedite
removal of the product.
