12 October 1995
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0112
5.0. CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
' 5.1. HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED GROUND WATER
' Petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations in ground water continue to fluctuate at the site. However,
the areal extent of hydrocarbon-impacted ground water continues to be centered near MW-1. Similar
to results of previous monitoring events, Wells MW-6, MW-7 and MW-8 are located in the up-
gradient location of the dissolved hydrocarbon plume; MW-5 remains near the down-gradient extent
of the plume.
' Petroleum hydrocarbons have not been detected in samples from wells MW-6 and MW-8 since their
installation in 1993. Therefore, we recommend reducing the sampling frequency of MW-6 and MW-8
to bi-annual (twice a year). The next quarterly ground water monitoring is scheduled for October
' 1995.
' 5.2. SOIL AND GROUND WATER REMEDIATION
M Soil and ground water remediation systems were installed at the site in late July 1995. An internal
combustion engine-driven soil vapor extraction unit is being used to remove hydrocarbon vapors from
the soil; a compressor-driven air sparging unit is being used to strip dissolved hydrocarbons from
t ground water. Progress of the remediation systems will be reported quarterly. Initial results of the
remediation systems will be presented in the Quarterly Report for October 1995.
' 6.0. LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities. The findings were based upon
analytical results provided by an independent laboratory. Evaluations of the geologic/hydrogeoiogic
' conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation are made from a limited number of available
data points(i.e. monitoring wells) and subsurface conditions may vary away from these data points.
No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the professional recommendations contained
' in this report.
