All
' samples were analyzed for TPH-g and for BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods 5030 and 602,
respectively.
' 3.6. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTIONIIN-SITU AIR SPARGING REMEDIATION SYSTEM
' The vapor extraction and air sparging units were installed inside a fenced enclosure at the southeast
corner of the Art & Artists building (Figure 2). A natural gas line and gas meter were installed to
supply and monitor suplimental fuel for the extraction unit.
1
Two-inch diameter PVC piping was installed underground from remediation well RW-1 to inside the
fenced enclosure. Above ground piping was then installed from the underground line (RW-1) and
' from MW-1 to a moisture knockout drum and then to the VACLEEN 1000 vapor extraction unit.
This vapor extraction unit bears has been approved by the San Joaquin County Unified Air Pollution
' Control Distric (SJUAPCD). Ball valves were installed to direct the air flow from either RW-1 or
MW-1.
Two-inch diameter PVC piping was installed underground from sparging wells SW-1 and SW-2 to
the fenced enclosure. A 13.5 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) EnviroSparge compressor unit
was connected to the underground piping using half-inch diameter PVC piping. The EnviroSparge
' unit is powered by a 220 volt outlet installed on the outside of the building inside the fenced
enclosure.
4.4. FINDINGS
' 4.1. SOIL PROFILE
Fine-grained sand was encountered during drilling in both SW-1 and SW-2 from the surface to a
' depth of 10 feet, and interbedded sandy clays and medium- to coarse-grained sands from 10 to 40 feet
in both borings. Sandy clays, fine-grained sands and sand-silt mixtures were encountered in SW-1 at
depths between 40 and 60 feet; clays and sandy clays were encountered in SW-2 between depths of
t40 and 60 feet. Water was encountered in both borings at approximately 60 feet. No samples were
collected from either boring at depths in excess of 60 feet; however, auger returns indicated the
' presence of silty sands at depths greater than 60 feet in each boring.
