1
QUARTERLY REPORT
Art & Artists
204 East Lodi Avenue
' Lodi, CA
October 1994
1.0 INTRODUCTION
' In accordance with a request from Mr. James DeMera of Mullen, Sullivan & Newton,
personnel from Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) have performed quarterly
groundwater monitoring procedures for October 1994 at 204 East Lodi Avenue in Lodi,
California (the site). The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1. A plan of the site is
illustrated in Figure 2.
2.0 BACKGROUND
2.1 Tank Removal
It is our understanding that one 550-gallon underground storage tank (UST) was removed
from this site in January 1987 by Thorpe Oil, Inc. The tank contained leaded gasoline, and
was located inside the on-site structure, near the building's southeast corner (Figure 2). The
' UST had failed an integrity test, and a soil sample collected from beneath the tank indicated
that an unauthorized release of hydrocarbons had occurred. Total petroleum hydrocarbons
(TPH as gasoline) were detected at a concentration of 1,400 mg/kg; toluene was detected
at a concentration of 270 mg/kg; and xylenes were detected at 18 mg/kg. The San Joaquin
County Public Health Services - Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) subsequently
required investigation of groundwater quality at the site to determine whether groundwater
had been impacted by the release.
' 2.2 Initial Investigation
Three soil borings were drilled in July 1987 and completed as MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3.
Sampling performed during this phase of the investigation indicated that the impacted soil
was limited to the vicinity of the former tank. No petroleum hydrocarbons were present in
soil samples from MW-2 or MW-3. However, high concentrations of hydrocarbons were
present in soil samples from MW-1. Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in groundwater
' from all three wells.
0w1.00l Audh S.Hm.lee 1
. y,a An:a axsnaswi.
1
