The
vapors are drawn from the wells and treated in one of several possible treatment units,
' including internal combustion engines, thermal oxidizers, and catalytic oxidizers. Each unit
was discussed in the PAR prepared by GeoAudit. An internal combustion unit has been
chosen for this site.
3.2 Proposed Vapor Extraction System (VES)
' GeoAudit will install an internal combustion (IC) unit at the site. The IC unit proposed is
a VACLEEN 1000. The schematic diagram of the VACLEEN system is illustrated in Figure
' S. Additional information on the VACLEEN 1000 is included in Appendix C. As indicated
by the vapor extraction test, soil conditions at the site are conducive to rapid removal of
high concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons by this type of system.
' GeoAudit proposes to extract vapors from both RW-1 and MW-1. Both wells can be easily
piped and fitted to the VES. By utilizing MW-1 as an extraction well, we hope to augment
' the soil remediation and expedite the groundwater clean-up.
' 3.3 Permitting
GeoAudit has a various location permit for the VACLEEN 1000. The permit was obtained
' in 1991 from the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District (SJVUAPCD).
For the Art & Artists project, the permit will be updated and revised as necessary. We do
not expect any permit revisions, if necessary, to delay the start-up of the VES.
pecbpnA.&Seivioeti I..
AAA F"17-M.47
