i
I
22 January 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0112
' 5.0. CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
5.1. HYDROCARBON-RAPACTED SOIL
Soil and ground water remediation systems were installed at the site in late July 1995. The initial soil
vapor results indicate a considerable volume of hydrocarbons as gasoline from the subsurface.
Additional soil vapor samples will be collected on a monthly to further monitor the mass of
hydrocarbons removed.
' 5.2. HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED GROUND WATER
' An internal combustion engine-driven SVE system is being used to remove hydrocarbon vapors from
the soil;a compressor-driven IAS system is being used to strip dissolved hydrocarbons from ground
' water.
Petroleum hydrocarbons have not been detected in samples from wells MW-6 since installation in
1993;toluene has been detected only once in?VIW-S (0.4 ppb). Therefore, we recommend reducing
the sampling frequency of these wells to bi-annual (twice a year).
The relative movement of the dissolved hydrocarbon plume has not been substantial. However, the
down gradient well at the site, well MVV-5, was found to contain TPH-g and benzene in two
consecutive monitoring events. The PHS-EHD may require installation of an additional ground water
monitoring well to accurately assess the dissolved hydrocarbon plume. The next quarterly ground
water monitoring is scheduled for January 1995.
6.0. LIMITATIONS
' Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities. The findings were based upon
analytical results provided by an independent laboratory. Evaluations of the geologic/hydrogeologic
conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation are made from a limited number of available
data points(i.e. monitoring wells) and subsurface conditions may vary away from these data points.
No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the professional recommendations contained
in this report.=
1
