1
t05 May 1997
AGE-NC Project No 95-0112
' to total depth explored (75 feet bsg) General site stratigraphy is illustrated on Figure 4
3 3 3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
A total of eleven soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline
(TPH-g)and volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes BTE&X)
with methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 8020,
respectively Pour soil samples were submitted to Cooper Testing Laboratory in Mountain View for
' physical/geotechnical analyses Samples P4-30 and P4-55 were analyzed for organic content
samples P4-35 and P4-50 were analyzed for dry weight density and porosity Due to the nature of
the soil types and small sample tube diameter, permeability analysis could not be performed
TPH-g was detected in soil samples collected from depths of 15 and 20 feet in robin P4 at
P P probing
concentrations of 540 parts per million (ppm, reported as milligrams per kilogram) and 350 ppm,
' respectively TPH-g was detected in probing P5 at concentrations as high as 4,300 ppm (40 feet)
Ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected at concentrations as high as 23 ppm in the samples collected
, . from depths of 40 and 45 feet bsg to probing P5 BTE&X and MTBE were not detected in the
remaining samples collected from probings P4 and P5 Analytical results of soil samples ale
summarized 3n Table 1 The laboratory report (AAL Batch No 97-0303-004) and chain-of-custody
forms are included in Appendix B
Samples P4-30 and P4-55 were found to have an organic content of 1 0% and 3 9%, iespectively
' Samples P4-35 and P4-50 were found to have poiosities of 24 6% and 38 4%, respectively The dry
weight densities for samples P4-35 and P4-50 were calculated to be 126 2 pounds per cubic foot
(pcf) and 102 7 pcf, respectively The average density was therefore 114 5 pef or 1 83 grams per
' cubic centimeter (g/cm3) Due to the dense nature of the soil at the site and the small diameter of the
tubes used for sample collection, permeability analyses could not be performed on the samples
submitted The laboratory report is included in Appendix B
' 4 0. QUARTERLY GROUND WATER MONITORING, APRIL 1997
41 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
r - On 10 April 1997,a Sol inst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in`each'
well, except MW-2,relative to the top of each well casing The relative ground water elevations were
calculated by subtracting the ground water depth from the surveyed casing elevation (Table 5)
SAfter making and recording depth to ground water measurements, monitoring wells MW-1, MW-3,
