30 September 1996
AGE-NC-95-0112
3.0. FINDINGS
1 3 1 GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND FLOW DIRECTION
' The relative ground water elevation data is given in Table 1 Between April and May 1996, ground
water elevation rose an average of 0 35 feet Ground water elevation decreased an average of 161
feet between May and July 1996 Ground water mounding was observed during the May and July
monitoring events Greater variation in ground water elevation was observed in MW-1 relative to
other wells during the second quarter of 1996 Relative ground water elevations for May and July
1996 are depicted in Figures 3 and 4
1 3 2 LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in the ground water sample collected from MW-1 at a concentration of 230 parts
per billion (ppb, reported as micrograms per liter) Ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in the
sample from MW-1 at concentrations of 1 5 ppb and 14 ppb, respectively Petroleum hydrocarbons
were not detected in samples collected from MW-3, MW-4, MW-5 or MW-7 Samples were not
collected from MW-2,MW-6 or MW-8 during the current quarter The analytical results of all water
samples are summarized in Table 2 The laboratory report(AAL, Batch No 96-0711-010)and chain-
of-custody form are included in Appendix B
' 3 3 STRATIGRAPHY
Predominantly silty fine- to medium-grained sand was encountered from surface grade to
1 approximately 42 feet below surface grade (bsg) A clay layer was encountered in probing P3 from
approximately 12 feet bsg to 16 feet bsg Silt was encountered from 42 feet bsg to the bottom of the
borings (55 feet bsg) Boring logs are included in Appendix C
3 4 LABORATORY AND FIELD EVIDENCE OF IMPACTED SOIL
Organic vapor was detected in samples collected from the surface to 25 feet and from 35 and 40 feet
bsg in probing P 1 at concentrations as high as 699 parts per million volume (ppmv) Significant
concentrations of organic vapor was detected in samples collected from 15 feet to 25 feet and 40 feet
to 55 feet bsg in probing P2 at concentrations as high as 1500 ppmv, but only traces of organic vapor
were detected at a depth of 30 feet in P1 and at 30 and 35 feet in P2 Organic vapor was detected in
samples collected at depth from 45 to 55 feet bsg in probing P3 Boring logs are included in
Appendix C
1
