Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study
Schuler Property Tracy, California Irerracon
May 30, 2019 Terracon Project No. NA197026
collected into two clean glass 40 ml VOA preserved with ascorbic and meleic acid and analyzed
for DBCP 1 2-Ribromo-3-chloropropane) by EPA Extraction Method E524.3. Nitrate as N was
reported 15.0 mg/Lir groundwater sample GW-1 above the MCL of 10 mg/L N. roup water
sample G - eelowlaboratory reporting limits of 0.010 micrograms per liter (ug/L) for
DBCP.
1.4.5 Groundwater Sample Handling
Refer to Section 1.4.3.
1.5 Soil Profile and Geologic Information
The site is depicted on the Geologic Map of California 2010, as within generalized quaternary
Pleistocene and Holocene deposits which are comprised primarily of unconsolidated and semi-
consolidated alluvium, lake, playa, and terrace deposits.
Terracon reviewed the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources
Conversation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Survey and USDA Soil Survey of San Joaquin County
(1992) for information regarding soil properties. Based on information obtained from the USDA
sources, the site consists of Stomar clay loam soils with 0 to 2 percent slopes. Parent material is
alluvium derived from sedimentary rock. Typical soil profiles consist of 0 to 17 inches clay loam,
17 to 47 inches clay, and 47 to 60 inches clay loam. Stomar clay loam are well drained with high
runoff class, slow permeability, and high shrink swell potential. The rate of water intake in irrigated
areas is 0.5 inches per hour. For sites with septic systems, the main limitations are slow
permeability and high water table which may effect the effectiveness of the septic system. Slow
permeability can be improved by increasing the size of the absorption field.
1.5.1 Soil Boring Locations
Percolation test boring (B1) is located west of the existing mobile home and north of the barn.
Soil boring (B2)was located approximately 5 feet north of boring B1. Refer to Appendix A, Exhibit
2 for the boring locations.
1.5.2 Soil Boring Dimensions
Soil borings B1 and B2 were advanced with a 4 inch diameter hand auger. Boring B1 was
excavated to a depth of 3.5 feet bgs and boring B2 was excavated to a depth of approximately
10.0 feet bgs.
1.5.3 Soil Lithology Observed
The following table presents a log of the soil boring(s). Boring logs are included in Appendix D.
Responsive ■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 8
