Box 806 FORMER NORGE DRY CLEANERS (676 W. LODI AVE) AND DELUXE Protection
Sacramento, CA DRY CLEANERS (668 W. LODI AVE) , LODI, CALIFORNIA
95812-0806
Dear Mr. Higson:
The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC)
has determined that locations of the former Norge Dry
Cleaners (Norge) and Deluxe Dry Cleaners (Deluxe) ,
identified in the ASPI' s soil gas Workplan, dated
November 4, 1996, and field sampling conducted on
December 10 and 11, 1996, are inaccurate. DTSC found
that Norge may have been located approximately 150 feet
northwest and Deluxe approximately 90 feet northwest of
ASPI' s identified location. The two buildings where
the former dry cleaners were situated had been
demolished by ASPI prior to 1996 . The locations of
these two buildings in relation to ASPI' s identified
locations are shown in Attachment 1 . The addresses of
the stores located in these buildings in 1980 are shown
in Attachment 2 .
Furthermore, based on a telephone conversation
with Mr. Rex Whorton, the demolition contractor for
ASPI ' s Lucky Store located at 610 W. Lodi Avenue, Lodi,
California (Site) , DTSC found that the 1995 demolition
work conducted at the Site removed not only foundations
of the former buildings but also a swimming pool . The
swimming pool was located in the same building where
Deluxe was situated. Therefore, the 1995 demolition
work may have disturbed the soils beneath the Site as
deep as 6 feet . In addition, DTSC' s review of the 610
W. Lodi Avenue Street File showed that the former Tokay
Coin-Operated Laundry and dry Cleaners (Tokay) may have
been located at 704 W. Lodi Avenue (Attachment 3) .
However, there were four (4) addresses associated with
704 W. Lodi Avenue prior to 1980 : 704 #1, 704#2 , 704A,
and 704B W. Lodi Avenue. It is not clear which of
these addresses applies to Tokay, therefore, location
of this former dry cleaners is unknown.
DTSC is concerned that the depth and locations
where soil gas samples were collected during the
December 10 and 11, 1996, field sampling by ASPI' s
consultant, Montgomery Watson, may not be
,a OF
Rin2E m Rec)YE Pape
