The purpose of this
study is to determine the potential impact from nitrate loading and the suitability of the
subsurface for an onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) due to the proposed
addition of a residence, septic system, and future use of the property. The study was
performed in accordance with the requirements of Section 9-1105.2(d) of the San Joaquin
County Community Development Department. The scope of work included a soil
percolation test, groundwater sampling of the onsite domestic water well, review of
published soil and groundwater information, local septic use and permit research, and
estimated nitrate impact to soil and groundwater at the site. The site and surrounding
area are illustrated in Figure 1. A site plan depicting structures, the percolation test hole
location, a domestic water well location, and the planned locations of the proposed
residence and septic system are illustrated in Figure 2.
1.1. DESCRIPTION OF SITE
The location of the site, surrounding properties and general setting is illustrated on the
Avena topographic map (7.5 Minute United States Geological Survey (USGS)
Topographic Series, California). The site is located in the southeast portion of Section 33,
Township 1 South, Range 8 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian (Figure 1).
The map shows the property located at an elevation of approximately 70 to 75 feet above
mean sea level in an area of low topographic relief. The regional slope of the area is
relatively gentle and dips toward the northwest.
The property is located on the north side of California State Highway 120 (ST RT 120), at
the intersection of French Camp Road and ST RT 120, Ripon, California. The site consists
of a 2.11-acre rectangular parcel, trending northwest-southeast, identified as San Joaquin
County Assessor Parcel Number (APN) 203-220-76. The current zoning of the property
is agricultural. There are no existing structures on the site and the site is currently covered
with walnut and fig trees. The property is provided with water from the existing domestic
water well located on the adjacent property at 17699 ST RT120.
1.2.
