Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
The sampling probe will be washed with a phosphate free-detergent and rinsed with
deionized water between use at each sampling location to prevent possible cross-
communication of PCE or other HVOCs. The equipment rinse water and any soil
generated from the soil gas sampling (investigation derived residuals) will be stored in
5-gallon buckets for later profiling and disposal. The 5-gallon buckets will be stored at a
location onsite selected by the City of Lodi.
After the completion of the sampling and analysis at each location, the small borehole will
be filled with bentonite chips and hydrated with deionized water. For the sampling location
outside the Beckman Building, the 1-inch diameter sampling probe will be able to penetrate
the asphalt paving at the sampling locations. The small diameter hole in the asphalt paving
will be patched with asphalt cold patch at each location. Inside the Beckman Building, a
1 1/2-inch diameter concrete core will be drilled through the building's concrete slab on
grade to allow advancement of the sampling rods and collection of the soil gas sample. At
the completion of the sampling and analysis, the concrete cores will be filled and leveled
with a quick set , non-ferrous, non-shrink concrete grout.
Kennedy/Jenks will review the analytical results from each sampling location as it becomes
available during the course of the investigation. If the evaluation of the data suggests a
trend in PCE concentrations that warrants collection of soil gas sample(s) from a different
location, Kennedy/Jenks may amend the sampling plan with approval of the City of Lodi to
collect data from these new locations.
2.3 Report Preparation
After completing all field work, Kennedy/Jenks will summarize the collected data into a brief
letter report. The letter report will contain the following:
• A map showing the sampling locations, both inside and outside the Beckman Building.
• Description of the methods used to collect the soil gas samples and analyze the soil
gas samples.
• A map showing PCE isoconcentration lines with depth as determined by the analytical
data.
• A brief discussion of the results of this investigation addressing the presence of PCE in
the soils in the vicinity of the Beckman Building.
• Conclusions on the data analysis and recommendations for additional work, if
warranted.
• Copies of the laboratory analytical reports and chain of custody documentation.
3!8!96 8:38 AM 3 952704.01
g:\jobs\952704.01\lodi.doc
