Soil Sampling Workplan
Former Manufactured Gas Plant—Lodi,California
trip blanks will be analyzed for TPH-p, BTEX and/or VOCs by EPA Method 8260B. One trip
blank, placed within coolers with soil samples, will accompany each shipment of sample coolers to
the laboratory.
Following completion of each soil boring, each borehole will be abandoned by grouting from the
base of the borehole to approximately 0.5 foot bgs with bentonite-cement grout. The boreholes will
be restored at the surface to match the surrounding conditions. The drilled location of each soil
boring will be marked with a marking flag, white paint, or similar and measured accurately to locate
it on Site plans.
4.6 DECONTAMINATION AND WASTE MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES
The drilling and sampling equipment will be decontaminated between each sample collection point
and following completion of each soil boring to avoid cross-contamination between sample
locations. Before, during, and following drilling operations, direct push and hollow-stem auger
drilling equipment will be thoroughly cleaned using a high pressure hot water (steam) washer.
Sampling equipment and any tools, measuring devices, or other equipment which comes in contact
with soil will be washed in a low-phosphate soap and water solution, and rinsed in distilled water
before each use.
Soil cuttings and rinsate generated during the drilling and sampling activities will be contained in
Department of Transportation (DOT)-rated 55-gallon steel drums. The containers will be
temporarily stored on-site until characterization results are received, waste profiling is complete, and
arrangements for off-site disposal can be made. All transportation and disposal activities will be
conducted using appropriate manifests and documentation.
TERRA PACIFIC GROUP Page 12 October 19, 2012
